On the occasion of Ren Hang’s death on Friday 24th January, KWM artcenter, which is currently staging an exhibition of his work entitled ‘Beauty Without Beards’ (19th January -24th March 2017), is releasing the following quotation for any further articles:
NB: Quotation from the last film interview conducted on 17th January 2017. (For a film (still in production) on Ren Hang on the occasion of his last exhibition in China ‘Beauty Without Beards’ at the KWM art center, Beijing from 19th January – 24th March)
“I like the nude, because that is the moment people are most fragile and closest to Death.”
“I am happy taking photos and writing but the only time darkness hits is when i have to work with reality.”
Zhang Yuling, Director of KWM art center.
“Ren Hang was the easiest artist I have collaborated with. His death immediately reminds me of the ancient Greek playwright Menander when he said ‘whom that God loves, dies young’.”
Tim Crowley, Assistant Director of KWM art center.
“It seemed when speaking to Ren Hang that first and foremost he considered himself a poet. In response to questions about his photographs often he would give monosyllabic answers. However, when asked about his poetry, his eyes lit up and he became very alert and enthusiastic. He was, in a way, a poet who just happened to be a great photographer!”=
May he rest in peace
The exhibition will be extended a further week closing on the 24th March.
